Inauguration of the PescArt exhibition in Es Castell: transforming plastic waste into art and crafts
During the first fortnight of August, PescArt Menorca and several artists and craftsmen exhibit in Es Castell the works and artisan products made with recycled plastics.
Last Wednesday, the PescArt Menorca exhibition was inaugurated in Es Castell, an innovative circular economy project promoted by Menorca Preservation through the Menorca Without Plastic Alliance. The exhibition, which will be open to the public until August 16, every day and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., stands out for its focus on sustainability, presenting artistic works and artisanal products made from discarded fishing nets, fabrics, of broken umbrellas, battered neoprene suits, small plastics and microplastics collected from the natural environment.
The exhibition, located in the Es Soleiet room (on the Es Castell Esplanade), brings together the work of the craftswomen and artists of Menorca, such as Magda Triay and her large-format tapestries, Yolanda López and her artistic frames, Giada Gaia with her paintings of microplastics and raincoats, Dino with her shoes, Júlia Triay with her bags and bags, and a long etcetera. In addition, the works of Mario dello Iacono and JE, finalists of the Hierbas Biniarbolla artistic recycling contest in collaboration with Menorca Preservation held at the beginning of the year, are also shown. The inaugural event was attended by representatives of the Es Castell City Council, which collaborates in the event by providing the space.
"This exhibition not only celebrates creativity and the multiplying power of collaboration, but also reflects the firm commitment of many people to a more sustainable future for Menorca," highlighted Núria Sintes, project coordinator.
During the course of the exhibition, a creative corner has been installed to give free rein to the imagination through recycling and reusing materials. This space is open to the public of all ages and seeks, through discovery and manipulative experimentation, to raise awareness about the importance of the circular economy and the reduction of plastic waste.
